Chai (rhymes with “pie”) is the word for tea in many countries in the world. Masala Chai is the term for the spiced tea from India made from milk, black tea, various spices, and sweetener (although purists will say that you should drink it unsweetened for the full sensation of the spices). The spices used in chai vary from region to region; however, the most commonly used are cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and pepper. Chai produces a soothing effect, is a natural digestive aid and gives a wonderful sense of well being.
